One Novel - Many Reactions
As you already know, Steinbeck's novel The Grapes of Wrath deals with the migration of the farmer family Joad during the dust bowl. They, like hundred thousands of other farmer families, had to leave their home Oklahoma to start a new life in California. With his famous novel, Steinbeck exemplifies the fate of migrant workers in the USA during the 1930's. The reactions to the novel were controversial. At first, The Grapes of Wrath was abolished in California. In 1940, Steinbeck won the Pulitzer Prize for his novel. Steinbeck's most controversial novel led to various reactions of artists.
